Recent funding rounds and hardware demonstrations are accelerating trader focus on orbital AI compute, as companies address terrestrial power and cooling limits for large language models and GPU clusters. Starcloud’s August 2026 $250 million raise at a $2.3 billion valuation follows its November 2025 launch of an NVIDIA H100 GPU that trained small models and ran inference in orbit, while SpaceX and Blue Origin have filed FCC applications for constellations of up to one million and 51,600 satellites respectively, targeting initial deployments around 2027–2028. Google’s Project Suncatcher plans prototype TPUs with Planet Labs next year, and partnerships for wireless power beaming aim to boost capacity. Pending regulatory approvals, radiation hardening, and launch economics remain key swing factors that could shift market-implied odds on near-term operational data centers.
