Smith powered through qualifier Ryotaro Taguchi 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 32 before rallying from a set down to defeat Dominik Palan 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 yesterday, showcasing resilience. Milic, a left-handed baseliner, staged comebacks with three-set wins over wildcard Dev Javia (6-1, 7-6(5)) and Joshua Charlton (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), but faces endurance test in Bengaluru's hot conditions (nearing 37°C). No prior head-to-head; Smith's seeding and form position him as the implied favorite amid a competitive draw.
