This market will resolve to "Christie's" if Christie's announced total sales for the 2026 calendar year are greater than Sotheby's announced total sales for the 2026 calendar year. This market will resolve to "Sotheby's" if Sotheby's announced total sales for the 2026 calendar year are greater than Christie's. For the purposes of this market, a house's "announced total sales" is the headline global full-year figure that the house itself publishes for the 2026 calendar year, including projections, in its own year-end results announcement or press release, expressed in US dollars. Each figure will be used exactly as the house publishes it, with no adjustment for differences in what the two houses include in their totals. In 2025, this included Christie's total global sales as reported by Christie's (see: https://press.christies.com/62b-projected-global-sales-in-2025/), and Sotheby's consolidated sales as reported by Sotheby's (see: https://www.sothebys.com/en/articles/sothebys-projects-2025-consolidated-sales-of-7-billion/). Both figures will be compared in US dollars. If a house publishes its full-year total in a currency other than US dollars, that house's own published US dollar figure for the same period will be used if one is published. If no such figure is published, the total will be converted to US dollars at the exchange rate in effect at the time of that house's announcement. A figure announced before the end of 2026 will qualify, provided the house presents it as its total for the full 2026 calendar year. Revisions will only be considered until both auction houses have published their totals. If the two announced figures are exactly equal, or if both houses have not published a full-year 2026 total by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve 50-50. If only one house has published such a total by that date, this market will resolve to that house. This market will resolve according to official announcements published by Christie's (christies.com) and Sotheby's (sothebys.com), with a consensus of credible reporting also being used if necessary.**Sotheby's holds a market-implied edge at 67% for higher 2026 total sales, reflecting its historical year-end leadership, broader platform across luxury categories, and strong private-sales infrastructure.** Both houses posted sharp H1 rebounds after weaker prior years, with Christie's at $4.5 billion (including a record ~$1 billion in private sales) and Sotheby's at $4.4 billion (including an all-time high $826 million private), fueled by trophy single-owner collections such as Christie's $630.8 million S.I. Newhouse sale and Sotheby's record Lewis and Mnuchin offerings. ArtTactic auction-only figures showed Christie's ahead at $3.4 billion versus Sotheby's $2.8 billion, yet Sotheby's posted steeper percentage growth in several metrics and benefits from deeper luxury crossover (watches, design) and geographic reach. Traders appear to weigh Sotheby's consistent positioning and expected H2 momentum—particularly in the fall New York season—more heavily than Christie's early headline wins. Key upcoming catalysts include November marquee sales and any late single-owner consignments that could shift the narrow contest.
