Recent July 2026 CPI data at 4.45%—up from 4.38% in June and the highest since late 2024—has anchored trader consensus on the 4.50%+ outcome for India’s 2026 annual inflation at 79.5% implied probability. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have lifted energy prices and pressured the rupee, amplifying food and transport components while RBI projections for FY27 were revised higher to 5.0–5.1%. These factors, combined with base effects from the prior low-print year and monsoon variability, explain the market’s pricing of sustained readings above 4.5% through year-end, with risks balanced around upcoming policy and data releases.
