The recent resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer in late April 2026 amid internal investigations has elevated acting Secretary Keith Sonderling and Solicitor Jonathan Berry as the leading contenders for the permanent role. Sonderling’s prior service as deputy secretary and early deployment to the department during the transition gives him operational continuity, while Berry’s confirmation as chief legal officer and background in labor regulation position him as a policy-focused alternative. With the two separated by just one percentage point in trader consensus, the market reflects uncertainty over whether the White House will prioritize immediate agency leadership stability or a shift toward stronger enforcement emphasis. Upcoming Senate confirmation hearings and any further personnel signals from the administration could widen the gap between these insiders.

An announcement from Donald Trump or the Trump administration stating their intent to nominate a specific individual for United States Secretary of Labor will suffice to resolve this market, regardless of whether a formal nomination actually occurs.
Qualifying announcements must explicitly present the relevant individual as the nominee or future nominee for United States Secretary of Labor.
Announcements of acting or interim appointments, or announcements which merely reveal potential candidates, will not qualify. Media reports, speculation, or other unofficial information will not qualify.

If Donald Trump does not announce his pick for the next United States Secretary of Labor by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No announcement in 2026".
The resolution source for this market will be official information from Donald Trump and the Trump Administration; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
