FIFA's preference for retaining full ownership of the 2026 World Cup stems from its expanded 48-team format across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, backed by major broadcasting deals and sponsorship renewals that have strengthened revenue without equity dilution. Recent financial updates highlight robust reserves from prior cycles and new commercial partnerships, limiting the need for external investors. Historical FIFA approaches favor licensing models over ownership stakes in flagship events, aligning with trader consensus that a sale remains unlikely absent major shifts in funding needs or governance priorities.
