Ranked around No. 172, the British right-hander brings solid recent hard-court results but limited clay experience this season. Leyre Romero Gormaz, the left-handed Spaniard at approximately No. 159-164, benefits from home-soil familiarity and a stronger 2026 clay record, including prior WTA-level qualifying appearances in Madrid. With no prior head-to-head meetings, the outcome hinges on adaptation to the red-clay conditions, serve reliability under pressure, and recovery from the demanding qualifier schedule.
