Brandon Nakashima enters the National Bank Open round of 16 on outdoor hard courts as the clearer favorite against Arthur Rinderknech, reflecting his stronger 2026 results and head-to-head edge. Ranked near 31, Nakashima holds a 22-15 record with straight-set wins over Altmaier and Droguet in Montreal, while Rinderknech sits around 29 with a 14-17 mark and a retirement victory over Tiafoe. Their lone prior meeting came on clay in Lyon earlier this year, where Nakashima prevailed in four sets. Both players reached this stage via byes and solid early-round play, but Nakashima’s recent consistency and serve-heavy style on hard courts give him the edge in a match that could hinge on baseline rallies and first-serve percentages. No major injury concerns have surfaced for either player ahead of the August 8 encounter.
