The September 20, 2026, Berlin state election will determine the next Abgeordnetenhaus composition and, through subsequent coalition negotiations, the Governing Mayor. Die Linke’s lead candidate Elif Eralp benefits from her party’s competitive polling position near 20 percent, driven by voter focus on housing affordability, living costs, and urban policy. The CDU’s replacement of former mayor Kai Wegner with Stefan Evers after internal criticism of the July blackout response has kept that party’s prospects in the low-to-mid 20s. A fragmented field featuring AfD, Greens, SPD, and BSW candidates leaves no clear majority path, sustaining tight implied probabilities across top contenders. Coalition arithmetic, turnout among left-leaning districts, and any late shifts in economic or security sentiment remain the primary variables that could separate outcomes before parliament convenes to select the mayor.
