The weight bump allows Asakura, a knockout artist with explosive striking, to avoid deep cuts and maximize power in a likely standup battle against volume striker Smotherman, who holds a 1-2 UFC record highlighted by a unanimous decision over Ricky Simon last June. No recent injuries or withdrawals reported, with traders eyeing Asakura's size advantage at 135 pounds, stylistic edge in power punching, and favorable distance from Japan amid Smotherman's noted chin concerns and inconsistent ground game. Weigh-ins next week could introduce late variables like weight misses or camp news.
