The Chicago Cubs hold a stronger position than the Miami Marlins entering any late-August or early-September matchup, sitting at 77-59 and second in the NL Central while remaining firmly in the wild-card hunt, compared to Miami’s .500 mark and fourth-place standing in the NL East. The Cubs’ offense has shown recent power surges, while their rotation and bullpen manage ongoing injury absences. The Marlins have dropped four of their last five games, including a walk-off loss to the Nationals, amid a stretch of inconsistent results and multiple pitching injuries limiting depth. Head-to-head history and late-season schedule positioning favor the Cubs in most scenarios, though Miami’s speed on the bases and occasional power outbursts from players like Heriberto Hernández can create volatility in individual contests.
