The Toronto Blue Jays (67-70) host the Kansas City Royals (62-75) in a late-August series at Rogers Centre amid Toronto’s push for the final AL wild-card spot, sitting just 1.5 games back with roughly 25 games remaining. The Royals, despite their last-place standing in the AL Central, entered on an eight-game winning streak fueled by strong offense (averaging over six runs per game during the run, led by Bobby Witt Jr.) and improved pitching, though they remain poor on the road. Toronto’s rotation has been decimated by injuries, including Shane Bieber landing on the IL with back inflammation and ongoing absences for José Berríos, Trey Yesavage, and others, forcing reliance on bullpen games and inconsistent starters like Max Scherzer. The Jays have shown resilience after losses recently and hold a home advantage, while the Royals’ hot streak creates matchup volatility despite their overall record.
