The Washington Nationals (60-65) visit the New York Mets (55-69) at Citi Field in a late-August NL East matchup with little playoff implication for either side. The Mets enter after a 5-4 walk-off victory the prior evening, though they remain hampered by Juan Soto’s left calf strain on the injured list. Washington counters with its own absences, including James Wood’s oblique strain. Probable starter Jake Irvin faces a Mets lineup still seeking consistency amid multiple bullpen moves and roster adjustments. Home-field factors and recent head-to-head results at the venue could influence the closely contested outcome, with both clubs focused on finishing the season strongly despite sub-.500 records.
