Javokhir Sindarov leads as the clear favorite to win the 2026 World Chess Championship due to his record-breaking, unbeaten victory in the FIDE Candidates Tournament, where he secured six wins and clinched the challenger's spot with a round to spare. The 20-year-old Uzbek grandmaster's career-best 2775 rating and dominant recent form have shaped trader consensus around his edge in classical match play against defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju. Mixed results in their Grand Chess Tour rapid and blitz encounters this spring, including Sindarov's strong responses in Poland, have reinforced perceptions of his rising momentum while highlighting Gukesh's experience as titleholder. Both players, set for the youngest combined-age championship match in history later this year, bring elite preparation and tactical depth that keep the outcome competitive despite current implied probabilities.
