Édouard Philippe holds a clear lead in trader sentiment for the 2027 French presidential race against Gabriel Attal due to consistent polling advantages within the center and center-right bloc. Philippe, the Horizons founder and former prime minister, benefits from stronger first-round estimates in recent surveys, broader appeal to moderate voters from the right, and a series of ralliements that bolster his positioning ahead of the fragmented centrist field. Attal, the Renaissance secretary general and another ex-prime minister, trails with lower hypothetical scores and faces perceptions of closer ties to the outgoing Macron record, limiting his ability to consolidate the same electorate despite an active campaign emphasizing pro-European integration and fiscal restraint. Recent public exchanges, including Philippe’s criticism of Attal in a new book and Attal’s September media appearances defending his viability, underscore the ongoing competition without shifting the underlying dynamics. The market’s pricing reflects these established trends more than any single late development.
