Mees Rottgering enters this Winston-Salem Open qualifying match as the clear favorite against Hunter Heck due to a substantial ranking gap (No. 416-418 versus No. 728-730) and stronger recent form on hard courts. The 19-year-old Dutch left-hander, who balances ATP-level appearances with Wake Forest collegiate play, has posted multiple ITF and challenger wins in 2026 while reaching career-high rankings earlier in the summer. Heck, a 24-year-old American, has competed primarily at lower ITF levels with inconsistent results, including recent qualifying losses. This first meeting on outdoor hard features Rottgering's edge in experience against higher-ranked opponents and overall win rate, though qualifying draws remain prone to variance from form fluctuations or fatigue.
