Daniil Medvedev, the No. 8-ranked player and 2018 Winston-Salem champion, faces Martin Damm, ranked No. 92, in the round of 16 on hard courts. Medvedev enters on a wild card after a third-round loss to Brandon Nakashima in Cincinnati, where he squandered match points, but maintains a strong 2026 record of roughly 31-13 with titles in Brisbane and Dubai. The matchup marks their first meeting, with Medvedev holding a dominant hard-court career record and extensive experience at this US Open Series tune-up event. Damm, a left-hander, shows mixed recent results and limited success against top-10 opponents. Traders price Medvedev as the heavy favorite based on ranking disparity, surface suitability, and preparation focus ahead of the US Open, while acknowledging Damm's potential for competitive sets on an off day.
