Juncheng Shang enters the US Open first-round matchup against Marco Trungelliti as the market favorite, driven by the 21-year-old left-hander’s higher career peak (No. 47), athletic upside, and proven hard-court results at majors despite a current ranking of 228. Shang arrives with a 5-7 record in 2026 after early exits in Toronto and Cincinnati, but his power and movement create a stylistic edge over the 36-year-old Argentine veteran ranked No. 83. Trungelliti has posted a stronger 27-23 mark this season, including strong clay results and a career-high No. 76, yet faces a physical test in a potential five-setter on outdoor hard courts. The absence of prior head-to-head meetings leaves recent form and endurance as key variables shaping trader consensus.
