Incumbent Ján Nosko holds a modest lead in trader pricing for the October 24 mayoral contest in Banská Bystrica, reflecting his long tenure since 2014 and backing from Smer-SD and Hlas-SD despite running as an independent. An August Focus poll showed him at 38.3 percent against Diana Javorčíková’s 36.7 percent, with the remainder split among Matúš Molitoris, Tomáš Sobota (backed by KDH), and lower-polling entrants including Marian Kotleba. The fragmented opposition, which has not consolidated behind a single challenger, sustains the tight implied probabilities, while campaign focus on housing shortages, population outflow, infrastructure projects, and local governance efficiency has yet to produce decisive shifts ahead of the vote.
