**Ramzan Kadyrov remains the incumbent Head of the Chechen Republic and is actively seeking re-election in the September 18–20, 2026, vote, backed by United Russia and a public endorsement from President Vladimir Putin in April 2026.** He registered as a candidate in August, has maintained a visible public schedule—including dispatching fighters to Ukraine and local infrastructure events—and faces only nominal opponents, consistent with his prior near-unanimous victories. Persistent unconfirmed reports of serious health issues, such as kidney problems and pancreatitis, have driven earlier succession speculation and family promotions (notably sons Akhmat and Adam into security and government roles), yet these have not produced verified incapacity or removal. Kremlin preference for stability in Chechnya amid the Ukraine conflict further supports continuity, with any transition likely requiring Putin's direct approval and facing age and institutional barriers for immediate family successors. The election outcome and official confirmation will determine near-term market resolution.
