The BJP's commanding 92.5% implied probability in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation election market stems primarily from its decisive victory in the May 2026 West Bengal assembly polls, where it secured a majority and led in 102 of the 144 existing KMC wards. This momentum has prompted the dissolution of the prior AITC-led board, appointment of an administrator, and scheduling of civic polls for December 2026 (with delimitation expanding wards to 209). BJP organizers have intensified outreach and candidate selection ahead of the vote, leveraging the state-level shift and anti-incumbency trends against the long-ruling AITC. Traders see limited realistic paths for reversal, such as unexpected coalition realignments or localized setbacks in minority-dominated wards, though the current consensus reflects sustained organizational and electoral advantages for the BJP.
