Don Mattingly's interim success has shaped the Phillies managerial market after Alex Cora again declined the role for family reasons, leaving the organization to weigh retaining the bench coach who guided Philadelphia from a 9-19 start to a 79-55 finish and an NL Wild Card berth. Mattingly's familiarity with the clubhouse and Dave Dombrowski's front office gives him an edge in the wide-open field. Rocco Baldelli stands out among external options for his AL Manager of the Year pedigree and playoff experience with the Twins, while Brad Ausmus benefits from prior ties to Dombrowski. Other names like Brandon Hyde, Will Venable, and David Ross reflect the thin candidate pool amid a looming CBA expiration and potential lockout, with trader prices reflecting uncertainty over a permanent hire versus continuity.
