The September 20, 2026 Berlin state election remains wide open after CDU incumbent Kai Wegner withdrew in July amid criticism over his handling of a citywide power outage. Finance Senator Stefan Evers was swiftly named the center-right replacement and party chair. Elif Eralp of Die Linke leads trader consensus in a fragmented field that also features candidates from the SPD, Greens, and AfD. With no party projected to reach a parliamentary majority, post-election coalition talks will decide the governing mayor, sustaining tight probabilities across frontrunners. Recent polling shows divided support, and any shifts in turnout or alliance signals before the vote could widen gaps in implied odds.
