Trader consensus positions Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois as the frontrunner for Quebec premier after the October 2026 general election, driven by recent polling that shows the PQ tied or narrowly ahead of the Quebec Liberals while maintaining stronger support in francophone ridings. This distribution favors the PQ in seat projections under the first-past-the-post system, despite ongoing debates over sovereignty proposals. Christine Fréchette’s April 2026 victory in the Coalition Avenir Québec leadership race installed her as the current premier, yet the governing party’s support remains below 20 percent amid voter fatigue following François Legault’s departure. Charles Milliard’s Liberals sit close in aggregate numbers, while Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives and minor parties draw limited shares that further fragment the field. Upcoming summer polling and campaign events could narrow or widen these gaps before election day.
