The 2025-26 NHL regular season saw the Colorado Avalanche capture the Presidents' Trophy with a dominant 121-point performance in the Western Conference, while the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Utah Mammoth, and Vegas Golden Knights also secured playoff berths. Vegas advanced furthest, sweeping the Avalanche in the conference finals before falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Final. Entering the 2026-27 campaign under an expanded 84-game schedule and rising salary cap, Western Conference contenders are focused on offseason roster moves, including extensions for key veterans, trade rumors around goaltenders like Connor Hellebuyck, and prospect development. Recent form, home-ice advantage in best-of-seven series, and injury management during training camp will shape which teams advance past the first round, where upsets remain common due to parity and goaltending variance.
