Meta's market capitalization stands near $1.39 trillion as of mid-August 2026, well above OpenAI’s $852 billion post-money valuation from its March 2026 funding round. Traders assign Meta an 84% implied probability of finishing the year with the higher valuation because its public equity trades with transparent liquidity and earnings visibility, supported by $200+ billion in annual revenue and operating margins near 40%. OpenAI continues to post rapid revenue growth—reportedly reaching $2 billion monthly—but remains deeply unprofitable, with heavy losses and an IPO now viewed as more likely in 2027 than late 2026. Meta’s elevated 2026 capex guidance of $130–145 billion underscores its own AI investments yet also highlights execution risk that has already weighed on its share price. The gap narrows only if OpenAI achieves a near-term listing at or above $1 trillion, an outcome markets currently price as low-probability given regulatory timelines and valuation scrutiny.
