Apple’s lobbying of the Trump administration for clearance to source DRAM from blacklisted Chinese supplier ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) reflects acute supply pressure from AI-driven memory demand, which forced price hikes across Mac and iPad lines in June 2026. The company has tested CXMT chips for iPhones and MacBooks aimed at the China market and held early supplier talks, yet CXMT remains fully booked through 2027 by domestic buyers such as Huawei and Xiaomi, with prices comparable to or above those from Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Political risks, including Pentagon blacklist status and congressional opposition, plus export-control uncertainties, continue to weigh on the timeline. These capacity, pricing, and regulatory constraints explain why traders currently assign a modest edge to no purchase occurring in 2026.
