Ongoing US-Iran ceasefire talks, punctuated by intermittent strikes and reported deal revisions in late May and early June 2026, remain the dominant driver of rial volatility. Sanctions enforcement actions targeting Iranian oil revenue, combined with lingering effects from the Strait of Hormuz disruptions earlier in the year, have sustained elevated inflation and currency pressure. Any breakthrough easing sanctions or reopening trade routes could stabilize the rial, while renewed escalation or stalled negotiations would likely accelerate depreciation. Traders are watching daily diplomatic signals and oil-market reactions through the June 30 resolution window, as these directly influence short-term exchange-rate momentum.
