Sebastian Baez enters the first round of the 2026 Canadian Open in Montreal ranked around 48-53 and holding a stronger 2026 win record than Mattia Bellucci, who sits near 80-81. The matchup marks their first meeting on hard courts at an ATP Masters 1000, where Baez transitions from his preferred clay surface after limited recent hard-court exposure. Bellucci’s game aligns better with the faster conditions, creating a competitive opener despite the ranking gap. Recent form favors Baez overall, yet the surface shift and Bellucci’s hard-court comfort represent key variables that could influence early-match momentum and set outcomes in this single-elimination encounter.
