The Argentine Liga Profesional's split Apertura-Clausura format, with Belgrano claiming the opening phase title, has left the overall 2026 runner-up race exceptionally open after eight Clausura rounds. Mid-table parity across both groups keeps implied probabilities tightly clustered near 49-50% for Atlético Tucumán, Banfield, Belgrano, Boca Juniors, Defensa y Justicia, Huracán, Independiente, Newell's Old Boys, Racing, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Talleres, Tigre, Unión, Vélez Sarsfield and several others. Recent results show Instituto and Argentinos Juniors topping their Clausura groups while established sides like Vélez and Rosario Central maintain strong aggregate positions, yet inconsistent form, frequent managerial shifts, and narrow goal differences sustain the competitive balance with no clear frontrunner emerging.
