The early 2026-27 Betway Premiership campaign remains wide open for the runner-up spot after Orlando Pirates ended Mamelodi Sundowns’ eight-year title streak in 2025-26. Defending champions Pirates, a resurgent Kaizer Chiefs side under Fernando da Cruz, and Sundowns enter as the clearest top-three contenders, supported by strong pre-season recruitment and squad depth across the traditional Big Three. However, AmaZulu, Sekhukhune United, and several mid-table sides have posted strong opening results, including unbeaten starts and positive goal differences that keep them mathematically in contention. With only a handful of fixtures completed, inconsistent early form, fixture congestion from cup competitions like the MTN8, and typical PSL roster volatility mean no single club has separated itself for second place. Trader consensus therefore prices the field tightly, reflecting the league’s historical parity outside the title race and the limited sample size available this deep into pre-season preparations.
