Hugo Dellien enters the US Open qualifying opener as the higher-ranked player at No. 140 against Moez Echargui at No. 225, backed by a stronger recent win rate (around 60% over the past year versus Echargui’s 37.5%) and greater career experience at the Challenger and ATP levels. The outdoor hard-court surface in New York favors Echargui’s historical success rates on hard, while Dellien has posted weaker results on the speedier surface despite his clay-court pedigree. No recent head-to-head exists on hard, though Dellien won their only prior meeting on clay in 2023. Both players arrive after mixed hard-court results in the lead-up, with Echargui showing flashes in recent US challengers and Dellien navigating early exits in North American hard events.
