Yu Shu-chen holds a commanding lead in the Hualien County Magistrate race as the official Kuomintang nominee, selected in March 2026 after prevailing in the party's internal polling for the November 28, 2026 election. The county's longstanding KMT dominance, combined with the term limit barring incumbent Hsu Chen-wei from seeking another term, has concentrated trader consensus around the party's chosen candidate. Internal party rivals such as Chang Chun and others who sought the nomination but were passed over continue to register only marginal probabilities, reflecting limited prospects for independent or splinter candidacies. No significant polling shifts, opposition surges, or late-breaking developments have altered this positioning in recent months, leaving the market focused on Yu's path through standard campaign dynamics and voter turnout patterns in the November vote.
