Ramzan Kadyrov remains the dominant candidate in the September 18–20, 2026, Chechen head election after United Russia nominated him and Vladimir Putin publicly endorsed his candidacy during an April 2026 meeting. Kadyrov has continued public activities, including recent appearances at infrastructure openings and reports of troop deployments to the special military operation, while directing security forces to conduct heightened monitoring ahead of the vote. Persistent unverified reports of his health challenges have fueled succession discussion, with his sons positioned in security and administrative roles, yet no official confirmation of resignation or removal has emerged. Kremlin backing and the absence of viable challengers anchor trader assessments that he will retain the post through year-end.
