LaLiga's 2026-27 campaign opens with an expanded European allocation for Spain following strong coefficient performances and Rayo Vallecano's Conference League run the prior season. This shifts qualification downward, placing the Conference League spot at seventh in the table. Early standings after the opening matchday show Alavés atop the standings ahead of Sevilla, Villarreal, and Racing Santander, with Athletic Bilbao and Atlético Madrid occupying Europa League and play-off positions respectively. Key variables include team form over the 38-match schedule, injury reports on key players, head-to-head results in mid-table clashes, and any Copa del Rey outcomes that could reallocate spots. Mid-season fixture congestion and away form in the second half will likely determine the final order among contenders fighting for that seventh-place finish.
