The St. Louis Cardinals (57-58) host the Colorado Rockies (45-70) at Busch Stadium on August 8 in the middle game of a three-game set, with the Cardinals favored as home underdogs in the NL Central wild-card picture and the Rockies mired near the bottom of the NL West. St. Louis enters after a 3-2 win in the series opener, looking to build momentum with stronger overall pitching depth and recent form, while Colorado seeks to snap a lengthy road skid. Probable starters Kyle Freeland (6.81 ERA) for the Rockies and Matthew Liberatore (4.97 ERA) for the Cardinals highlight a clear edge for the hosts on the mound. Key roster notes include Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker (knee) listed day-to-day and multiple long-term absences on both sides, including elbow issues for St. Louis' Ramón Urías. Weather in St. Louis is expected to be warm and dry, with no postponement concerns. The matchup favors the Cardinals' situational advantages in a low-leverage late-season contest.
