The Phillies' midseason dismissal of Rob Thomson on April 28, 2026, after a dismal 9-19 start and MLB-worst run differential, opened a search for his permanent successor following Don Mattingly's interim appointment. Trader consensus reflects a crowded field of experienced candidates, with Brad Ausmus, Mattingly, George Lombard, and Alex Cora clustered within roughly four points due to overlapping managerial pedigrees, recent bench-coach or coordinator roles, and alignment with president Dave Dombrowski's preference for steady leadership amid a high-payroll roster featuring strong starting pitching. Recent form, internal promotions, and external availability keep the implied probabilities competitive, as no frontrunner has pulled away in the early weeks of the search.
