The Chicago Cubs enter the August 14-16 series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field holding a firm grip on second place in the NL Central at 71-50, while the Cardinals sit at .500 around 61-60 and 13 games back. Recent July matchups favored the Cubs, including a 10-2 road win and a four-game set where Chicago pulled away early behind timely hitting from Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ. Both clubs face roster challenges, with the Cubs missing infielder Matt Shaw and relievers on the injured list, and St. Louis monitoring Jordan Walker’s right knee alongside other absences. The weekend slate at home, combined with the Cubs’ stronger overall run differential and home form, shapes trader views on series outcomes and individual game probabilities in this NL Central rivalry.
