The September 20, 2026, Berlin state election will determine the composition of the Abgeordnetenhaus, which elects the next Governing Mayor amid a fragmented five-party landscape. Recent polling shows support split across the CDU, SPD, Greens, Left, and AfD, leaving coalition negotiations as the decisive factor after the vote. Kai Wegner’s July withdrawal as CDU lead candidate over his handling of a major power outage introduced uncertainty, with replacement Stefan Evers now heading the ticket. Elif Eralp of the Left, Werner Graf of the Greens, Steffen Krach of the SPD, and Kristin Brinker of the AfD anchor competing blocs, keeping implied probabilities tightly matched near 50 percent for leading contenders. Late campaign developments in turnout, cross-party positioning, or coalition signals could shift the balance before the House selects the mayor.
