President Donald Trump publicly endorsed the idea of renaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement as National Immigration and Customs Enforcement in late April 2026, sharing a social media suggestion on Truth Social and calling the proposal a “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT.” He repeated the notion in a May 2026 Rose Garden speech, noting that ICE carries a tough connotation while most advisers favored the change, though White House border czar Tom Homan expressed reservations. Any formal rebrand would require congressional legislation rather than an executive order alone, introducing procedural hurdles in a divided legislature. Traders are therefore focused on whether the administration will prioritize the measure amid ongoing immigration enforcement priorities and the legislative calendar before the end of the term.
