The Japanese striker, known for knockout power and elite standup (21-6 MMA), benefits from reduced weight cuts and faces a volume striker in Smotherman (12-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC), who earned a unanimous decision over Ricky Simon in June 2025 but carries a questionable chin and inconsistent grappling threat. With similar tale-of-the-tape stats—Asakura at 5'8" versus Smotherman's 5'9"—traders weigh Asakura's pedigree and stylistic edge heavily, amid no reported injuries or withdrawals two weeks out. Weigh-ins and final camp updates could shift sentiment.
