The 1996 McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R, nicknamed the “Pop Art F1” for its distinctive one-off livery, heads to RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction with a pre-sale estimate in excess of $35 million. Traders are pricing in strong demand from the car’s extreme rarity—only nine 1996-spec GTRs were built—plus its Le Mans racing heritage and long ownership by Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason. Recent coverage in automotive outlets has amplified visibility ahead of the August 15 hammer drop, while the broader classic hypercar market continues to reward documented provenance and unique examples. Any final sale figure above or below the $35–40 million threshold will hinge on live bidding momentum at Monterey Car Week.
