The tight spread among Yordan Alvarez, Nick Kurtz, Juan Soto, and Shohei Ohtani underscores a competitive MLB race for most intentional walks, driven by power hitters who force opposing managers to pitch around them in high-leverage spots with runners on base. Alvarez’s middle-order presence in a strong Astros lineup and Kurtz’s early-season production as a young slugger create ongoing uncertainty in their respective paces. Soto’s elite plate discipline and Ohtani’s combination of power and lineup protection sustain their positioning, while factors such as team standings, recent form, and opponent bullpen usage can alter IBB opportunities rapidly through the summer schedule.
