Several teams remain tightly bunched in the early American Athletic Conference standings, with Florida Atlantic, Memphis, UTSA, North Texas, and UAB each at 1-0 in league play and overall records clustered around 3-2 to 4-1. Recent results, including Memphis’s dominant win over Charlotte, Florida Atlantic’s offensive outburst, UTSA’s narrow road victory at Rice, and North Texas’s overtime thriller against Tulsa, have kept multiple contenders alive without creating separation. South Florida and Army sit just behind at 1-1, while the absence of a clear frontrunner after non-conference play and the conference’s historical parity sustain trader consensus around a wide-open race heading into the October and November slate.
