Manchester City Women, the defending Barclays Women’s Super League champions after ending a decade-long title drought, host newly promoted Birmingham City Women in the 2026-27 season opener at Joie Stadium. City enter with an unblemished 11-0 home record from last season and a dominant historical edge, having won 16 of the previous 24 meetings. Birmingham, back in the top flight after claiming the WSL2 title, face an immediate test but emphasize a competitive mindset under coach Amy Merricks. City will be without forward Vivianne Miedema (knee) until at least late autumn and defender Rebecca Knaak (foot), though the squad’s depth and recent recruitment support their strong positioning in trader consensus for the match outcome.
