Trader consensus on Polymarket prices a low near-term risk of Bab el-Mandeb Strait effective closure, with implied probabilities of just 3% by May 31 and 13% by June 30, rising modestly to 21% for September 30 amid $2.8 million in volume. This reflects sustained U.S. Navy defenses countering over 190 Houthi missile and drone incidents since April, maintaining a trickle of transits despite April threats tied to U.S. Iran policy under Trump and concurrent Strait of Hormuz disruptions. The chokepoint handles 12% of global oil flows; ongoing Red Sea risks have driven Shanghai Containerized Freight Index to ~1,900 points (up 36 recently) via Cape rerouting, inflating costs 45% year-over-year, while Brent crude holds near $108/bbl. Key catalysts include fresh IMF PortWatch ship arrival data and escalation signals from Iran-backed proxies.
