The record for most goals by one player in a single FIFA World Cup stands at 13, set by Just Fontaine in 1958, with no one exceeding eight since the 2002 edition. The 2026 tournament's expanded 48-team format and maximum of seven or eight matches for finalists make surpassing that mark nearly impossible under modern defensive schemes and limited scoring opportunities. Trader consensus at 95.4% on "No" reflects this historical gap and the consistent underperformance of even elite forwards relative to the benchmark. A late surge by a superstar on a deep run could theoretically narrow the distance, though injury risks, rotation, or early elimination would further reduce any realistic chance of a record-breaking performance.
