Liudmila Samsonova holds the edge entering this Australian Open first-round clash on hard courts, where her superior power game and higher ranking around the top 25 have shaped trader expectations. At 27, the Russian brings strong recent hard-court form and a slight edge in head-to-head results, having split prior meetings with Siegemund. The 38-year-old German veteran counters with crafty returns, net play, and proven upset potential on slower surfaces, though her 2026 singles record reflects inconsistency outside clay events. Key factors include Samsonova’s serve dominance and baseline aggression versus Siegemund’s experience managing big-match pressure, with no major injury concerns reported for either player ahead of the matchup.
