Taro Daniel enters as the clear favorite against Duncan Chan in this Quebec City Challenger first-round match on hard courts, reflecting his superior ranking and extensive ATP-level experience. The 33-year-old Japanese player has shown solid recent form, advancing through qualifying with wins over players like Dusan Lajovic. Chan, a 21-year-old Canadian ranked outside the top 450, arrives with momentum from a breakthrough National Bank Open appearance in Montreal, where he notched his first Top-100 victory and reached doubles quarterfinals. Home-country support and local familiarity could boost the underdog, though Daniel’s consistency and serve typically prevail in such matchups unless Chan sustains early momentum.
