Casper Ruud and Joao Fonseca meet in the National Bank Open third round on Montreal hard courts, renewing their rivalry after the Brazilian’s four-set victory at Roland Garros in May. The 19-year-old Fonseca, ranked No. 27, arrives with strong recent momentum after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and carries a 1-0 head-to-head edge, while the 27-year-old Ruud sits at No. 14 with a 24-14 record that includes a Masters 1000 final in Rome. Ruud’s greater experience on faster surfaces and consistent Masters-level results contrast with Fonseca’s aggressive baseline game and improving hard-court form, creating a matchup where recent results and surface transition will shape outcomes.
